I also have an ice dispenser issue where the motor and drive shaft are turning but the drive shaft is not making connection with the ice bon auger when the bin is in place. Would the electrical tape fix be the same for my model #? Also, i dont see a spring anywhere in the drive shaft assembly. I have a kitchenaid model # ksrg25ftst01

Answer Hello Justin. This is an issue caused by the door liner being made of plastic. You see, the issue is caused by the plastic door liner changing shape by a small amount and this makes the shaft too short. Believe me, this steel shaft cannot strip. When the motor is setting effectively further away, this makes the shaft slip because it isn't meshing fully. I remove the two 1/4 inch hex headed screws and set the plastic "keeper" and spring aside. Pull the shaft up, out of the hole, (you can grab it with needle nosed pliers). Wrap electrical tape, sticky side out, around itself about 20 times or so and shove the wad of tape into the bottom end of the shaft. It may take a few trys to get the length right, but when you get it right, the shaft will mesh on both ends and it will dispense again. This is one of two ways to correct this issue. The other one is to replace the freezer door assembly.
I have an ice maker dispenser issue. The motor to which the shaft is attached still works and I can see the shaft turning when the door is opened and the dispenser switch engaged. The ice dispenser coupling on the bottom turns freely by hand. but when connected, the shaft does not seem to turn the ice dispenser auger. looking at the parts, there does not seem to be any additional interface between the shaft and the ice dispenser. is the shaft possibly stripped? or is there something that lifts the shaft higher to engage the ice dispenser? Any additional troubleshooting ideas?

I have a kenmore elite model 1065896701. I need to get the shaft out and I'm not sure if its frozen in place. The flapper was off the dispenser and the auger and shaft was stripped I have a new ice bucket and shaft but again the shaft wont come out please advise me as what to do thank you also installed a new flapper.

To get the shaft out, once you have the 2 screws removed from the cover of the shaft, you would then use a pair of channel locks and tap it once or twice. Once you have done this, try to lift the shaft from the hole. If it still will not come loose then you may have to remove the motor to get it out. The motor is located at the top part of the 3rd shelf from the bottom. Take out the 2 screws and remove cover. Once removed the motor will be held in place by 4 - 1/4" screws. Remove the screws and lower the motor. You may have to pull hard if the shaft is frozen.
