My whirlpool refrigerator model #(Model # ED5LVAXWQ00 ). The freezer shaft that turns the ice placement mechanism is faulty. I imagine that if the part that holds the ice isn't on correctly it could strip the hexagon shaft, as it did with mine. I used your idea of the electrical tape but I only went around twice and it seems to be working so far. I did notice however that there was rust on the hexagon shaft, I will replace it with a stainless steel shaft that is 12 1/2 inches long and 3/8 inch across the flat. The question I have is why would a hexagon shaft fit into a female torx head fitting? Thank you St Pete Florida

The ice dispenser shaft and coupling at the base of the bucket stripped as they would freely spin. So while waiting for a new shaft and coupling, I removed the existing shaft after having to thaw out and remove the motor from below and then flipped the shaft around. So now I have a fresh shaft end on top where it meets the coupling. This is only a temporary fix like I said as it is only a matter of time before the fresh end strips. This is only for background. Now after correctly remounting the motor, the shaft sat too low in its socket to catch the coupling. For now, I filled the motor socket with three small nuts to have the shaft raised enough. Why is the shaft now sitting too

I have an ice maker dispenser issue. The motor to which the shaft is attached still works and I can see the shaft turning when the door is opened and the dispenser switch engaged. The ice dispenser coupling on the bottom turns freely by hand. but when connected, the shaft does not seem to turn the ice dispenser auger. looking at the parts, there does not seem to be any additional interface between the shaft and the ice dispenser. is the shaft possibly stripped? or is there something that lifts the shaft higher to engage the ice dispenser? Any additional troubleshooting ideas?
