I changed the oven igniter , it appears to get very hot but will not light the oven.

Answer Hello Steve. If the igniter is new, you will need to order and replace the gas valve on the unit.

Could it be that the model number is too old? That is the model number. We got the oven in about 1966. It is still nice and clean and other than the problem I am talking about it still works good. I have put an oven thermometer in and the oven burns 50 degrees hotter than the thermostat is set. If you know of another wall oven or brand that I can get that is gas with a broiler and is 30 inches or even 28 inches I would see about buying another one. Thanks for your help and time.

I should have told you earlier that the oven would just light itself at different times. We would hear it come on and it would burn for maybe 5-15 seconds. It may be a thermostat or something else. Can you help? Thanks
