The button you push to open the microwave seems to have lost a spring or connection inside and it won't work. How do I get to the inside of the button area so we can try to figure out what is broken?
Marsha for Model Number Kitchenaid KCMS1555
Answer Marsha, You will need to be Very Careful, and stay away from the high voltage components of the microwave. You'll need to unplug the power cord, and remove the outer cabinet. On the top inside frame , above the control board, you'll need to remove the mounting screw(s) that hold the control assembly to the front frame. Lift up and out on the control panel assembly to dislocate the mounting tabs from the frame. you'll need to twist the assembly out, in order for the lever to clear the latch mechanism, and label the wires and connections, before you disconnect them from the control board. Once the assembly is dismounted you will have access to the button, lever and spring, and can perform the necessary repairs. Thanks
