Answer Hello Al,
The infinite switches are located behind the control panel. You can test the infinite switches to see if they are bad by checking voltage at the switch. From terminals P1 to P2 you should have 240vac. With switch turned on from H1 to H2 and you should have 240 vac. If you do not have 240vac between p1 and p2 then you need to find where you are losing power. If you get power to P1 and P2 but you do not get power at H1 to H2 then your switch would be bad. If you have power to H1 to H2 then it would be your elements or wiring to elements that would be bad. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
Stove top burner turns on however the temperature of the burner will not regulate properly as the burner switch is adjusted from high to low. Is this the burner infinite switch or a thermostat located at the burner causing the problem?
Thank you
Luke for Model Number KERC500YWH4
Answer Luke, If there is a problem with the cycling of the burner element itself, the issue would be in the burner infinite switch. The system works on a time basis, not heat. The burner produces the same amount of heat, uses the same amount of power, regardless of the setting, the infinite switch cycles the burner on and off longer (higher settings) or shorter(lower settings). You didn't clearly state the issue, so we hope this is helpful. Thanks and Good Luck
