When my washer starts filling up it reaches a certain level and stops filling even though the water is running in. it has to start pumping it out at the same time it is running in or it would overflow. I can turn the level switch down about middle ways and it will stop running and start washing. It will do the same thing when it goes to rinse. I never have to mess with anything but the level sensor, could this be my problem?

My Maytag washer leaked a lot of water. When I went to check to see if finished I had water (a lot) all over my floor. The cycle did finish. After cleaning up all the water. I tried to wash another load of clothes; but no water was coming into the machine. I checked both ends of both water hoses for debris and both were clear. I tried to move the cycle knob around to try to see if that would work; nothing. The machine will go through a full cycle; spinning and agitated but still no water. A friend looked at my washer and thinks it is the water level switch because he fells the machine thinks it already has water in in even though it doesn't and by doing some research I'm finding it can be the water valve. I cannot afford to change a bunch of parts. I want to make sure the right part is changed and the machine does not leak again and of course fills up with water. Please advise..
