I needed to replace the glass on this cooktop and there was a seal around the sides and a strong sealant that I needed to break underneath as well. I put this tape around the sides of the burner assembly portion in hopes I could lay the glass on top and use the burners to tighten it up but am having no luck. Is this the proper seal and what else is required to seal it if not?
Answer Hello Bryan,
If you are referring to the seal around the countertop, only aluminum tape is recommended. The foam tape can be used to prevent spills from getting between the cooktop and countertop but has been dis-continued since it will not inhibit heat transfer and countertop discoloration. The installer probably used silicone which will cause the situation you described and since it can cause the glass to be broken when the unit is removed for service, it is not recommended.
