Answer Rick, it's nice to have, and it does keep debris from getting between the cooktop glass and the counter top. Is it absolutely necessary, not really.

Answer Hi Judy. The corner tape part # 71003485 can be supplemented by using foam tape part #12002793 under the smooth top glass as it surrounds the counter top. Thank You
