I think my cold control is bad. I have taken it out & tested it with a multi-meter & when I turn it all the way down I have no continuity & when I turn it all the way up I have continuity. Is this bad ??

My fridge occasionally will stop cooling and never cycle back on until i hit the control unit where the cold level dials are (this works most of the time). At other times it stays cooling for long periods of time to the point where my fridge is near freezing and the freezer is super cold. Could this be a bad thermostat or a defrost timer?

Latest Questions

Freezer temperature occasionally goes up to almost 30F. If I rotate the damper control (the temperature setting for the freezer) a little bit (up or down) the compressor runs and the freezer goes back down to about 0 F. A week later, it might suddenly jump up to 30F again. Ideas?

My refrigerator just quit cooling in freezer and refrigerator. I am thinking that it is the thermostat (Whirlpool number 2200859). The compressor was running and operating fine. Are there other parts that might need to be checked before just replacing the thermostat? I did try to plug and unplug the refrigerator to see if it might just need to be reset. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. The manufacture date on this refrigerator is 05/2003. There is a possibility that it may not be worth trying to fix due to nearing life expectantcy. Thank you in advance for any information that you may have.
