The thermostat has shorted out on our 1935 Westinghouse refrigerator. Is the part still available?

Answer Hello Greg,
We have a few resources for vintage appliances. They are listed at: www.appliancepartspros.com/vintage-appliance-resources.aspx. I'm not sure if you have to have a model number for this or not but I would imagine to get the correct match, a model number would still be needed.
Good morning, my fridge stop cooling..my food is starting to go bad within 2-3 days...what's my problem?

Answer Hello James,
If it is the refrigerator side only that has stopped cooling then you would want to check to make sure that your evaporator coils are not impacted with frost. If they are impacted by frost then you would want to check you defrost bimetal 4387490 and defrost heater 2263749 for continuity. If they are good then you would want to replace timer. Also check your fan motor to ensure it is operational. If it is both sections that are not cooling then you would want to check you start relay 2258450 to make sure it is not blown. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
Fully washed interior due to power failure, really nasty inside...
I just replaced motor / evap in freezer as it was would not spin. It spins now, but does not cool. Does it matter how it is wired, as the wiring was not the same? Blows toward the front currently. The thermostat was a little rough to turn, it got wet also, but it does turn the fan off and on... do you think thermostat?

Answer Hi B. Use a volt/ohm meter part # TJMA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Is the fan motor getting full 120 vac to it ? Does it turn up to speed ? The thermostat control is the device that regulates the compressor to run as well as the evaporator and the compressor. Is the freezer evaporator getting a full frost pattern across it? Remove the rear freezer wall and see if it does. Does your cold control regulate the compressor run time? Does it start and stop the compressor as commanded? If it is hard to turn then it needs replaced. The freezer should be at 32° normally and the fresh food at 38-47 °. Thank You.
