I have thermostat part 3404154 in the unit which has 3 connection points and was sent part 3398128 which has 4 points. how do I replace part 3404154 with 3398128. your online part checker says they are both compatible with my dryer. thanks
Answer IRS, You cannot interchange the thermostats, apparently you received the incorrect part. The 3404154 is the hi limit thermostat and located on the heater assembly on the back of the bulkhead. It does have three(3) terminals, the elongated tab attaches directly to the terminal of the heater element. The 3398128 is the regulating thermostat and is located on the blower housing also on the back of the bulkhead. It is rated at 145 dgrs.F. and controls the temperature in the drum. The additional, small terminals are for the internal heater that is active when the medium or low temperature is selected. The hi limit thermostat is a "safety" device and is rated at 200 dgrs.F. and opens and eliminates power to the heater, if the dryer temperature exceeds 200 dgrs. due to a clogged vent, overloading, etc. They are not interchangeable.
What is the temperature for the thermal cut off switch?
Answer Hello Renee,
The thermal fuse opens at 196 degrees. If the thermal fuse [AP3919267} is open then you have to replace the fuse. Use a multi-meter to test the thermal fuse. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
