How do you check the defrost thermostat with it out of the freezer? Does it read ohms or it reads closed or open?

Answer Hello Clarence. You will need to place the thermostat 61002992 into a glass of ice and wait about 15 minutes to test it. It should read closed for continuity. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
freezer portion not defrosting, refrigerator getting warm. how and what should i test for. heating element reads zero on ohm meter thermostat inline with heater reads 1. how do i check thermostat, and circuit? no voltage reading between blue wires coming into freezer and leaving on yellow bypassing defrosting equipment.

Answer Kurt, Does 0 mean an open circuit(infinite resistance) on your particular meter ? Sounds like you have a bad defrost heater element. The defrost thermostat should be a "closed" circuit, if coverred with ice on submerged in a cup of ice water. The defrost cycle works like this, power(120 VAC) is supplied to the thermostat from the D/F timer. from the thermostat to the heater(white wire), through the heater element, and out or back to the timer(yellow wire)the defrost timer closes the circuit to neutral and back to the outlet. I'm pretty sure you'll have this figured out and repaired in no time. Thanks and Good Luck.
