When checking the defrost thermostat do you have to disconnect the connector that goes back to the fan or can you just disconnect the other two connectors to check for continuity.
Answer PTS, You'll want to disconnect both the wires to the thermostat C8972006 from the harness. That way you don't get a false or incorrect resistance reading. You'll also want to remember (like most Amana made products) the defrost thermostat will have an "OPEN" circuit at room temperature. Then the circuit will "CLOSE" when the thermostat reaches a temperature below 35 to 40 degrees. Placing the thermostat in a cup of salty ice water for a few minutes, then check the resistance, usually is the best way to test it.
How to test a thermostat? Is it open at cold or open at hot?
Answer Hello Roundhead. It should read open hot and closed cold.
