Michael, asked a question about broiler and heater element not working if temperature set to 300 or greater. The answer said micro switch AP4291987 was likely bad. My question is exactly where the switch is located and how do I get to it to replace it?
Answer Hi Rod. The issue is with the thermostat control not allowing the control to pass the voltage to the elements. The thermostat first of all is accessed by removing the knob to the rt. of the clock. You will need to remove the door. Then look under the control panel and remove any lower trim. Then remove the lt. and rt. end caps inner holding screws. This allows you to release the controls from the body and access the back of the thermostat. The thermostat is inner mounted on a plate. You first remove the plate loose off the back panel. Then from the front of this mount plate there are screws that holds the front of the thermostat. Remove the oven racks. Remove the capillary bulb out of the back oven cavity clips. Then You should be able to "guide" the thermostat capillary lines from the unit. When replacing the new thermostat, straighten the capillary so it has no kinks. Use round bends if needed. Then repack insulation around any inner cavity holes where the cap. tube passes into the unit. So the heat does not escape in the future and burn any wires (safety). Thank You.
