Whirlpool 2183400 defrost timer Recently repaired my fridge by replacing timer, bimetal, & heater coil - ordered from you. Successful BUT don't understand something....... When bench testing the timers (old and new) - I applied 110vac to terminals #1 & #3. Advancing the timer by hand, #1 switched between #2 for defrost or #4 for cooling as expected. BUT, the timer would not advance on its own over a period of several hours (based on a pencil mark) when it was on the bench but advanced properly when installed in the fridge. I understand there is a capacitor in series with the motor but not sure what impact this would have. Can't sleep for wondering what is happening - thought I had a reasonable understanding of electricity. PLEASE explain why the timer did not advance when on the bench. Thanks

Latest Questions

Defrost timer 2183400 Does the timer gear rotate on a time schedule or just when the compressor is running? I have replaced the timer, set it in manual defrost - about 30 minutes later, the compressor starts running but I can't see any evidence that the timer gear is turning after about 8 hours. (I placed a mark on it) Problem is that freezer frosts over and blocks cold air from the bottom of unit.
