I have the Maytag Performa Series. My daughter finished drying clothes and then went to do another load and nothing. I checked all the thermal fuses, checked continuity on all the switches with the exception of the timer. If I turn the timer, the on/off switch clicks but nothing. Turning the timer a few times and hitting the switch the dryer started working again but when the door was opened to the dryer it died again. Now nothing. Can't duplicate that one occurrence where it started again. The switch on the dryer door turn the inside light on and off, I didn't check the continuity but assume since the light is turning on and off it's ok. No motor smell. Cleaned all the contacts but I see no corrosion anywhere. I don't mind buying the timer if that is what it is, or can someone recommend anything else? Thanks

Answer Rick, You will want to check the start winding on the motor to make sure that it is good. Also check the continuity of the door switch to make sure that it has continuity when closed. The switch could be bad and just pushing the contact enough to turn off lamp but not make contact to start. The winding in the motor should ohm out between 2.4 and 3.8. You would check start winding from black to blue, and check run winding from White to blue. If these check ok then it would sound like the contacts in the timer are sticking. You could also check your push to start switch to make sure that it is good. You should have continuity when pushed and none when released.

My dryer stopped drying. It still tumbles, still turns on, however the timer knob does not rotate. Could I need a new timer to solve this?

Answer Hello. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. Also check the heater and thermostats and see if they are good. You can test these with a multi-meter TJMA-DM1. They should read closed for continuity. My dryer will not start the door light comes on when open. If I set the dial and push the start button I hear a click like the relay working. When I open the door or turn the timer I hear the relay click again. Motor and drum turns freely vent area is clean. Any suggestions?

Answer Bryan, Reset the breakers for the dryer several times. Then check and make sure you have 220/240 VAC at the terminal block on the back of the dryer. If all's OK, you'll need to raise the top, remove the front panel and check the thermal fuse 3392519, on the blower housing if it has an "open" circuit, the motor won't start and run. It may also indicate an "overheating" situation, so check the exhaust vent and vent hood for restictions, kinks and clogs. Thanks
