The timer knob when pushed in doesn't engage to turn the timer dial and guard to the appropriate washer setting. The timer knob when pushed in will not unscrew counterclockwise for replacement. It only spins.

Our 20+ year old roper washer's knob broke off. I watched the video to change the knob. Do I still hold onto the timer thing w/the needle nose pliers to get the broken knob piece off? Does it unscrew or just pull off. I hope this new knob fits and that I don't have to get a new timer. Thanks.
