Hello, I wasn't sure if the gasket seal (part 8181673) requires any lubrication prior to installation. It helps seal outer tub to inner tub. I know to lubricate the bearings but Whirlpool specs don't specify about this seal. Thank you

Under the rubber boot inside the washer, there is a plastic strip that is coming out. When the washer has run for the last 2 loads this plastic is being ground up and ends up in the strainer under the rubber boot. Is this some kind of gasket that needs to be replaced?

Same question as above about noise and outer tub worn away by metal inner tub. Not a bellows problem, it's not damaged. Problem with outer plastic tub is being worn down. Look like the outer tub needs to be replaced. What is cause of this? Thanks

Our washer has made a lot of noise recently. I have checked all 4 shocks and they are connected and seem to be good. I have noticed at the front of the washer under the rubber gasket a lot of plastic material that has been ground down and away due to the metal tub. It appears that the metal inner tub is grinding and has worn down much of the outer plastic tub near the front. What would cause this? Is it due to a seal breaking down? Asked by Bob for Model GHW9400PW0 Hello Bob. Based on the information you will need to replace the outer tub assembly AP4426951 and the front tub assembly. The bearings in the unit are bad and will need to be replaced. Hope this helps. This response was helpful to weigh if we should get a new washer or fix this one. We decided to purchase a new one. Knowing this and the answer I was given I decided to disassemble the old one. Your answer was close but not it. The bearings were fine and spins fine, however the brace on the back of the washtub was cracked in 3 places, 1 on each arm or leg of the assembly. It appears that dirt, and debris from use over the last 5 years had settled in to the assembly and with all of the vibration, small cracks formed and the corrosion process set in . Just thought I would let you know.
