The wire on the ice cube maker came off. When I placed it back on, the maker started to make ice cubes like there was no tomorrow. The wire appears to have lost it's spring or something like that.

You need to make sure that you got the icemaker arm in place properly. There is a white slot in the back of the housing that the icemaker arm will slide into. You may have to pull icemaker to see this. Make sure that it is in the slot or the icemaker will not shut itself off when full.
