My water dispenser on my Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator has quit working intermittently. When I try to get water, I get nothing. However, sometimes when I open the freezer door and close it again, I can get water from the dispenser but only that one time. When I go to try water again, I get nothing. When I first started researching this issue, I thought it might be the water inlet valve, but with it working occasionally when I open and close the freezer door, I'm having my doubts. Now, I’m thinking it might be the water dispenser switch.
You will want to check the bracket that the switch sits on to make sure that it is not broken. Also you will want to check the wire harness at the bottom of the door and make sure that there are no loose, broken or pinched wires. To access the bracket for the switches, you will use a flat blade screws driver at the bottom of the dispenser assembly and pop the panel loose. Lift the panel off and the bracket 2180226 is right there. If this checks ok and you check the wire harness, if the harness is damaged you would need to replace the door.
I get no water from dispencer in door. I have replaced the water valve and still no water, any suggestions ? I took the water switch to a dealer he said the switch was good. Thanks for any other suggestions.
Answer Hi Tony. The 1/4" water line going from the bottom of the door hinge is part # B5705307. It extends up into the door and terminates at the dispenser area. You need to unhook the coupling under the door and put a catch pan under the rt. side water line as it comes from the water tank. Now press the dispenser paddle and see if the water comes out of the tubing, indicating that the water tank is not clogged and the dispenser electrical are OK. If not, then look under the upper freezer door hinge and inspect the molex connectors for proper voltage of 120 vac. Repair the miss- pinned connections (or jumper between the 2 wires altogether). If the water tank behind the crisper center drawer is frozen and cannot give water, then this part # D7787801Q needs to be replaced or removed and slowly thawed from under the sink so it wont bust the tank. This has been replaced as a water line coil assy. Make sure the freezer temperatures are set at mid point and not getting colder then 0°. Thank You.
