Symptoms of a bad Main Control Board include:

  • Dishwasher failing to start or stopping mid-cycle
  • Unusual error codes displayed on the dishwasher panel
  • Non-responsive controls or settings that don’t change appropriately

This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Bob for Model Number GDF640HSM0SS

Had a technician out, he said my user interface board needed to be replaced. Got the new one, installed it nope, still doesn't work. Checked the machine control board, the light is flashing non stop. Manual says that it's a "software error, replace machine control board". new board installed. Still flashes non stop and the UIB still does not function at all. I can't run diagnostics, rest, nothing. Tried resetting by turning the breaker off waiting 2 mins and back on. What's next?

Answer

Bob, The flashing lights on the GE dishwasher could be the CSM has tripped. (Current Sense Module) This device is designed to trip if current leakage to ground is above 20mA ± 5mA is detected. The CSM functions similarly to commercially available GFCIs. This is located on the main control board and if it is tripped the cause is likely external to the board itself. The board should only be replaced after all other diagnostic tests have been completed and all other potential causes have been ruled out. Potential causes of current leakage to ground could be due to water leaking onto a live component, a component malfunction, or a fault within the wiring harness.
