Manufacturer Part Number: WP307473

The Thermal Fuse is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. This safety device protects the dryer from overheating by cutting off power if the dryer exceeds a certain temperature. It is crucial for maintaining safe operation and preventing potential fire hazards. This thermal fuse has 1/4-inch terminals and operates around 243 degrees F.

Causes of a bad thermal fuse include lint buildup causing overheating, blocked ventilation, or a malfunctioning thermostat. These issues can lead to the fuse blowing to prevent further damage or risk.

Symptoms of a bad thermal fuse include:

  • Dryer not starting
  • No heat in the dryer
  • Dryer shutting off mid-cycle
  • The dryer running but not heating

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Steve for Model Number MDE5500AYW

Our dryer will not turn on. When I press the start button, it starts to kick for a second and then stops, not even a partial revolution of the drum. The display works correctly as far as I can tell. When the door is open, I get the door open reading. All settings seem to work properly, and displays come up normally. It is just when I hit the start button that it shuts down. I suspect it is the thermal fuse, which I believe is part number AP4043259. It looks like it on the base next to the drum. Would there be another part that could also be causing this?

Answer

Steve, I would not expect you to have a bad thermal fuse. Were that the case, the motor would not attempt to start, I would have to suspect a voltage drop below 105 VAC when the dryer is started, check the connections at the terminal block on the back of the dryer. A small article stuck inside the blower wheel, causing a jam and not allowing the motor to rotate. or a bad motor WP33002795. Thanks and Good Luck
