Safety precautions

When working on any appliance, remember to keep safety first. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before you attempt any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by eliminating any risk of electric shock.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
  • Don’t test live voltage with a multimeter if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short-circuiting.
  • Take your time while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries. Rushing is the enemy of precision.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can see and access appliance parts.
  • Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Never work on internal parts with wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
  • Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
  • When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
  • Always take photos or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting them to make reassembly easier.

How to troubleshoot the 67 error code

Follow these steps to get your LG multi-split air conditioner working again.

Step 1: Inspect the outdoor fan motor

  1. Disconnect the air conditioner from the power supply.
  2. Visually examine the outdoor fan motor to make sure it’s not seized up and can rotate.
  3. Manually turn the fan blades to see if the motor can spin freely without any binding or obstruction. Remove any debris that you find.

If the motor looks good, you can test it to make sure it’s functioning correctly.

Step 2: Test the fan motor

  1. Make sure the air conditioner is disconnected from the power supply and access the outdoor unit.
  2. Find the outdoor fan motor connector on the printed circuit board (PCB) and unplug it. You may need to refer to the wiring diagram for your specific model to locate the connector.
  3. Set a multimeter to resistance (Ω) mode.
  4. Use the meter probes to measure the resistance between the motor winding terminals. The values should be within the range specified by the manufacturer, which may be found in the user manual or technical sheet for your model.

If any of the winding resistance readings are significantly higher or lower than the specified values, or if an open or short circuit is detected, then the outdoor fan motor is faulty and will need to be replaced.

If the fan motor passes testing, continue to the next step.

Step 3: Check the power supply

LIVE VOLTAGE WARNING: For this test, the air conditioner needs to be plugged in and powered on. Please be very careful to protect yourself from electric shock, which has the potential to cause serious injuries. Don’t ever test live voltage if you’re uncomfortable using a multimeter.

  1. With the outdoor fan motor connector unplugged, turn the power back on to the air conditioner.
  2. Set your multimeter to voltage (AC or DC) mode, depending on the power supply specifications printed on the motor.
  3. Use the meter leads to measure the voltage between the power supply terminals on the fan motor connector.
  4. Check the meter reading to see if the measured voltage matches the rated voltage listed on the fan motor.

If there’s no power or the voltage is incorrect and everything else looks OK, then the issue lies with the PCB, which will need to be replaced.
