What the 00d error means on a GE dryer and how to clear it yourself
Steven E / Wednesday June 19, 2024
Seeing an 00d error code appear on your GE dryer can be confusing at first. But thankfully you can find out what’s causing this door signal code and get your dryer running smoothly again without the need for an expensive technician.
Let’s walk through how to diagnose and fix a 00d error on a GE dryer.
If you find out that you need any replacement parts for your GE dryer while you’re troubleshooting, you can enter your model number at AppliancePartsPros.com to order them. Most orders arrive in just two business days, and we have thousands of free guides to show you how to install your new parts.
Important: The error code information in this article is based on general service manuals and may not apply to your specific appliance model. While we strive to offer helpful advice for DIY appliance repairs, variations in models and configurations can lead to differences in troubleshooting steps, error codes and part replacements. For the most accurate guidance, we strongly recommend consulting the technical sheet for your specific appliance model.
What the 00d error code means
On GE dryers, the 00d error code usually indicates that the control board is detecting the door switch signal as stuck closed after five consecutive drying cycles.
This is similar to error 008, which signifies the physical door switch is stuck. But in the case of 00d, the issue lies in the control board’s internal door switch detection circuitry – not the switch itself.
When operating correctly, the control board monitors the door switch signal at pin J1-3. It expects the signal to cycle open and close as the door is opened and shut. But if the board incorrectly reads this signal as stuck closed over 5 cycles, it will log error code 00d.
So while the door switch may be working fine mechanically, the error stems from a fault in the control board’s sensing circuit.

Safety tips
When working on any appliance, remember to keep safety first. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before you attempt any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by eliminating any risk of electric shock.
- If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
- If you have a gas model, shut off the gas supply to prevent any leaks while you work.
- Take your time while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries. Rushing is the enemy of precision.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can see and access appliance parts.
- Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Never work on internal parts with wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
- Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
- When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
- Always take photos or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting them to make reassembly easier.
- Don’t test live voltage with a multimeter if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short-circuiting.

How to troubleshoot the 00d error code
Follow these steps to clear the 00d fault code from your GE dryer.
Step 1: Test the door switch
- Unplug the dryer from the power outlet.
- Access the door switch, which is located behind the front panel.
- Set a multimeter to continuity mode and use the probes to check for continuity between the COM and NO switch terminals with the door open. You should not get continuity here and the meter shouldn’t make a beeping sound.
- Manually close the door and check for continuity again. There should be continuity between COM and NO.
If the switch fails this test, then the door switch is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the switch is good, then the issue likely lies with the control board detection circuit. Move on to the next step to continue troubleshooting.
Step 2: Inspect the door switch wiring
Before digging into the control board, you’ll want to inspect the door switch wiring.
- Make sure the wires connecting the door switch to the control board J1 connector are intact.
- Look for any damaged or shorted wires.
- Replace any damaged switch wires and clean any corroded wire terminals as needed.
If the door switch and wiring are good, replace the control board to resolve the 00d error.
