Safety precautions
When working on any appliance, remember to keep safety first. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before you attempt any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by eliminating any risk of electric shock.
- If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
- Take your time while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries. Rushing is the enemy of precision.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can see and access appliance parts.
- Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
- When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
- Always take photos or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting them to make reassembly easier.
- Don’t test live voltage with a multimeter if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short-circuiting.

How to troubleshoot the F7 error
Follow these steps to clear the F7 error from your electric Frigidaire range.
Step 1: Test the potentiometer
- Unplug the range from the power outlet.
- Find the potentiometers on the user interface board. There are typically two potentiometers – a black one and a gray one.
- Set a multimeter to measure resistance (Ω).
- Use the meter probes to measure the resistance between the two outside pins of each potentiometer.
- Check the meter reading. The resistance should be within 10% of the rated value – 9,000-11,000 Ohms for the black potentiometer, and 18,000-22,000 Ohms for the gray potentiometer.
- Turn the potentiometer shaft and measure the resistance between the center pin and each outside pin.
- Check the meter reading. As you turn the shaft, the resistance should vary between 500-9,500 Ohms for the black potentiometer and 1,000-19,000 Ohms for the gray potentiometer.
If you get any readings outside the acceptable range, replace the affected potentiometer(s).
If the readings are good, move on to the next step.

Step 2: Check the wiring harness
- Disconnect the wiring harness between the motherboard and the user interface board.
- Look over the wiring harness for any breaks or burn spots. If you find any damage, replace the harness.
- Set your multimeter to continuity mode.
- Use the multimeter probes to check for continuity. The harness should have continuous connections with no breaks or shorts. The meter should also make a beeping sound if there’s continuity (closed circuit).
If you don’t get continuity, replace the wiring harness.
If the potentiometers and wiring harness are both good, then the user interface board is faulty and needs to be replaced.
