The error code information provided in this article is based on general service manuals and may not apply to your specific appliance model. While we strive to offer helpful advice for DIY appliance repairs, variations in models and configurations can lead to differences in troubleshooting steps, error codes and part replacements. For the most accurate guidance, we strongly recommend consulting the technical sheet for your specific appliance model.

Entering the diagnostic mode

Follow these steps to access the diagnostic mode to retrieve any stored error codes:

  1. Start by ensuring that your dryer is powered on and idle. Make sure it is not currently running any cycles.
  2. Press and hold the Select and Cancel buttons simultaneously for 6 seconds. You will hear a buzzer sound once, and the display will briefly show “rES” to indicate that the control has been reset.
  3. Immediately after resetting the control, rotate the cycle selector knob two turns counterclockwise to the third position from the top.
  4. Press and continue holding the Select and Cancel buttons simultaneously for another 6 seconds. The control will now enter Field Test Mode, and you will hear the buzzer sound three times. The digital display will alternate between “Fld” and the firmware revision number, such as “r03.”
  5. Rotate the cycle selector knob two turns counterclockwise again. The error code will now appear in the digit display, indicating the specific issue with your dryer.
  6. Refer to the troubleshooting chart in the tech sheet located on the appliance to interpret the error code and identify the problem.
  7. To move on to the next error code, press the Options button.
  8. If you wish to clear the error code, press the Select button. The code will be cleared when you exit the diagnostic mode.
  9. To exit the diagnostic mode, simultaneously press and hold the Select and Cancel buttons for 6 seconds. This will return the dryer to normal operation.

Interpreting the error codes

E10, E11, E12 – Communication failure

These errors indicates a problem with communication between the control boards.

Solution: Clear the code, exit the mode, and start the dryer. If the error returns, it is recommended to replace the electronic control board.

E24, E25 – Shorted or open thermistor

These errors indicate a short or open circuit in the control thermistor or its wiring.

Solution: Remove the wires from the control thermistor and measure its resistance. If the reading is not within 50 K (±10%), replace the thermistor. If the reading is within range, check the wiring between the thermistor and the electronic control. If it is okay, replace the electronic control.

E68 – Key stuck fault

This error indicates that one of the keys or buttons is stuck closed or active.

Solution: Enter the function test mode found on the tech sheet and perform a key test to identify the faulty button. Carefully free the button and retest. If the button is released but the key struck code reoccurs, it is recommended to replace the electronic control.

E8C – Too many trips in a period of time

This error suggests that the safety (high limit) thermostat has tripped multiple times within a specific program time.

Solution: Check for an air flow restriction. This may be a blocked lint filter, obstructed exhaust, air leaks around the air duct, broken blower fan blades, worn or loose drum seals, or a dryer installed in a closet with solid doors or incorrectly seated door seal.
