For the most accurate guidance, we strongly recommend consulting the technical sheet for your specific appliance model.
What does the E73 error mean?
The E73 error specifically points to a problem with the inlet control thermistor or its related wiring in your dryer. This part is essentially a temperature sensor that measures the temperature inside your dryer and communicates with the control board. The thermistor works by changing its resistance based on the interior temperature.
Based on the temperature readings from the thermistor, the dryer can adjust its heating temperature so your laundry can dry in the most efficient way.
If the thermistor – which also acts as a safety device – isn’t working properly, your dryer might not heat up correctly, which can leave you with damp clothes. The dryer might also overheat, which can become a serious safety risk.

Safety precautions
When working on any appliance, always keep safety first to avoid personal injury or damage to the appliance or its parts. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind:
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before you attempt any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of electric shock.
- If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
- Take your time while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries. Rushing is the enemy of precision.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can see and access appliance parts.
- Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Never work on internal parts with wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
- Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
- When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
- Always take photos or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting them to make reassembly easier.
- Don’t test live voltage with a multimeter if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short-circuiting.

How to troubleshoot the E73 error code
Check out these troubleshooting steps so you can fix your dryer like a pro, without breaking the bank.
Step 1: Access the error code
- Make sure the dryer is plugged in.
- Press any button on the dryer except the “Cancel” button to wake it up.
- Press and hold the “Cancel” and “Start/Pause” buttons at the same time, for about 6 seconds. This should show you the last error code the dryer stored in its memory.
If you see ‘E00’, this means there are no errors. If you see the E73 error code, proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Check the thermistor’s resistance
- Unplug the dryer from the power outlet.
- Carefully disconnect the inlet control thermistor from the dryer’s wiring. Look over the wiring connected to the thermistor. If you see any cracks, frays or other damage, replace it. You might have to replace the entire wiring harness.
- Grab a multimeter and set it to measure resistance (Ω).
- Attach the multimeter probes to the thermistor’s terminals. It doesn’t matter which probe goes on which terminal.
- Check the reading on the multimeter. The resistance should be between 47k Ohms and 66k Ohms at room temperature (68-77°F). If the readings fall within this range, the Thermistor is good. If your readings are outside this range, then the thermistor is faulty and needs to be replaced.
- Measure the resistance of the thermistor between the terminals of J4-3 and the J4-4 connector (blue wires) on the main control board. If it reads between 47k Ohms and 66k Ohms at room temperature, you’ll need to replace the control board.
