Safety tips
When working on any appliance, always keep safety first to avoid personal injury or damage to the appliance or its parts. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before you attempt any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by eliminating any risk of electric shock.
- If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
- Take your time while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries. Rushing is the enemy of precision.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can see and access appliance parts.
- Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Never work on internal parts with wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
- Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
- When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
- Always take photos or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting them to make reassembly easier.
- Don’t test live voltage with a multimeter if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short-circuiting.
- Consider wearing safety glasses and/or a dust mask when working with chemicals, dust or a large amount of debris to prevent irritation or injury.
How to troubleshoot the F8E0 error code on a Whirlpool range
Here are the steps to identify and resolve the F8E0 error code on your Whirlpool range.
Step 1. Access the control board
- Disconnect the range from power.
- Open the oven door fully and flip up the hinge latches on both sides.
- Pull the door forward to release it, close it partially, lift it, and set it aside.
- Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws holding the console in place.
- If your model has a console trim panel, remove it to access additional screws.
- Remove the two corner screws exposed after removing the trim panel, if applicable.
- Lift the console and flip it onto the cooktop to expose the control board.
Step 2. Enter diagnostic mode
- Reconnect the range to power and clear any displayed error codes.
- Enter diagnostic mode by pressing Cancel, Cancel again, and Start on the console.
- Check the display to confirm that the diagnostic mode has been activated.
- Press TIMER to activate the cooling fan; a capital C should appear on the display.
- If the fan does not run, navigate to the TEST menu using the 3 or 6 buttons, press Start, and follow the instructions on the display.
Step 3. Test the cooling fan
- If the fan does not run in diagnostic mode, disconnect the range from power.
- Locate the blue P5 and red P6 connectors on the control board.
- Disconnect the P5 and P6 connectors.
- Set a multimeter to measure resistance in Ohms.
NOTE: Generally, for every 1 degree in temperature difference, 2 Ohms could be added or subtracted. If the temperature in your home is cooler, resistance would be subtracted.
- Place one lead of the multimeter on the purple wire of the P5 connector and the other lead on the white wire of the P6 connector.
- Check the resistance reading; it should be approximately 105 Ohms.
- If the reading is open or out of range, replace the cooling fan.
Step 4. Address further issues
- If the fan is within range but did not run, replace the main control board.
- If the cooling fan runs in diagnostic mode but the F8E0 error persists during normal use, replace the cooling fan first.
- If the error persists after replacing the fan, replace the main control board.
