Safety precautions
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
- Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
- Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Never work on internal parts with bare wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
- Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
- Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
Installation steps
- Open the door of the Frigidaire refrigerator to access the interior compartment. Remove any items stored on the shelf.
- Insert your fingertips underneath each side edge of the shelf that you need to replace on the door.
- Gently pull upwards to release the plastic locking tabs that are holding it from underneath. If the tabs don’t unlock easily, you can insert a flat blade under them, but be very careful not to damage the inner door liner.
- Once both shelf side tabs are unlocked, slide the entire shelf upwards and tilt it outwards from the door to remove it.
- If needed, clean the area around the locking tabs for the shelf and the inner door panel.
- Look at the new replacement refrigerator shelf and find the cutouts on the underside edges that fit over the door tabs. Orient the new shelf in the same direction as the old one.
- Position the shelf cutouts directly over their corresponding tabs on the door and gently bring the shelf straight down, keeping it level.
- When aligned correctly over tabs, push down firmly on both sides of the shelf until it clicks into place and is mounted flush with the other shelves.
- Check that both side edges of the shelf are locked under the retaining tabs to prevent it from tilting.
- Close and reopen the door to make sure the new shelf looks good.
- Replace fridge contents on the shelf.

Fridge shelf maintenance tips
- Use a mild soap and warm water or gentle wipes to clean the shelf, especially soon after spills. You don’t want smelly, hard-to-remove gunk building up on it.
- Avoid using tough or abrasive chemicals or rough scrubbers on the shelf, since they can damage it.
- Don’t overload the shelf with fridge items.
- When you’re putting things on or taking things off the shelf, try not to bump or hit it too hard. This can cause it to crack or break.
- Replace the shelf when you notice damage. If you see big cracks or other damage, it’s a good idea to replace the shelf as soon as possible to prevent accidents or more damage.
- Avoid placing extremely hot items directly onto the shelf, as sudden temperature changes can weaken the plastic material over time. Allow hot food or containers to cool down before placing them on the shelf.
Refrigerator maintenance tips
- Deep-clean your fridge by checking the expiration dates of any perishable items at least once a month. Dispose of them if they are past their expiration date.
- Check the seals and gaskets around the refrigerator doors for any signs of wear or damage. If you notice any gaps or tears, replace them.
- Check the temperature setting and adjust it if needed. The ideal temperature range for a refrigerator is 37-40°F. The freezer should be set at 0°F.
- If your refrigerator has an ice maker and water dispenser, replace the water filter every six months to a year depending on how much you use it.
- Remove food items and clean the interior surfaces of the refrigerator, including shelves, drawers, and door bins. Use a mixture of mild soap and warm water, and dry the surfaces before returning items to their places. Sanitize the handles, dispenser control pad and drip tray.
- Clean the condenser coils at the back or bottom of the refrigerator at least once every six months to improve airflow and reduce the risk of overheating. Use a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner with a narrow nozzle to gently remove dust and debris.
