Safety precautions

Your safety should always be the top priority when performing any appliance repair.

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before you attempt any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by eliminating any risk of electric shock.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
  • Take your time while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries. Rushing is the enemy of precision.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can see and access appliance parts.
  • Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Never work on internal parts with wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
  • Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
  • When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
  • Always take photos or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting them to make reassembly easier.
  • Don’t test live voltage with a multimeter if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short-circuiting.
  • Consider wearing safety glasses and/or a dust mask when working with chemicals, dust or a large amount of debris to prevent irritation or injury.

How to test and replace the Samsung range’s oven temperature sensor

Below are the steps to test the oven temperature sensor for accuracy and replace it if necessary.

Step 1. Power off and access the sensor

  1. Turn off the power by unplugging the range or switching off the breaker.
  2. Pull the range out to access the back panel.
  3. Remove the back panel by unscrewing the Phillips head screws.
  4. Locate the probe connector on the right side and disconnect it.

Step 2. Test the sensor

  1. Set a multimeter to measure resistance in ohms.
  2. Place the multimeter probes on the sensor connector.
  3. At room temperature (around 72°F), the reading should be approximately 1080 ohms ±10%.
  4. If the reading is within this range, the sensor is functioning properly.
  5. If the reading is out of range, the sensor needs to be replaced.

Step 3. Remove the old sensor

  1. Open the oven door and lay it flat.
  2. Push down the door catches, lift the door, and remove it.
  3. Remove the oven racks.
  4. Locate the sensor on the left side of the oven cavity.
  5. Unscrew the sensor from inside the oven.
  6. Go to the back of the range and remove the Phillips head screws securing the back panel.
  7. Disconnect the sensor’s connector from the back of the oven.
  8. Pull the old sensor out through the oven cavity.

Step 4. Install the new sensor

  1. Push the new sensor’s connector through the hole in the back of the oven.
  2. Secure the sensor with the two screws inside the oven.
  3. Reconnect the plug at the back of the range.
    1. If the new plug does not fit properly, cut off both plugs and connect the wires directly using ceramic wire nuts.
    2. The wire order does not matter; the sensor will function either way.
  4. Reattach the back panel using the Phillips head screws.

Step 5. Reassemble

  1. Reinstall the oven racks.
  2. Place the oven door back into position and secure the door catches.
  3. Open and close the door to check proper alignment.
  4. Plug the range back in or switch the breaker back on.
  5. Test the oven to confirm the proper operation of the temperature sensor.
