What the error means
The error code F01 indicates a primary control failure. The primary control, also known as the main control board or machine control electronics, is responsible for managing and coordinating the various functions of the dryer. This involves obtaining a new control board specifically designed for your dryer model and installing it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. It’s important to ensure that you have the correct replacement part that matches your dryer’s make and model.
Safety precautions
When working on any appliance, remember to keep safety first. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
- Turn off the water supply at the outlet before beginning repairs to any appliance parts that hold water. Have towels ready for any residual water in the system when removing parts.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
- Don’t test wiring with a multimeter for live voltage if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short circuiting when testing.
- When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
- Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
- Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Never work on internal parts with bare wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
- Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
- Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
- If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time for any heating parts to cool down before working on it.
- Take pictures or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting to prevent any problems with reassembly.
Replacement steps
Step 1: disassembly
- Unplug the dryer or disconnect the power to ensure your safety.
- Remove the two rear screws on the top panel of the dryer.
- Slide the top panel towards the rear of the dryer to disengage it from the front clips. Lift the top panel and set it aside.
- Once the top panel is removed, you will see the machine control electronics bracket. Remove the two screws that secure the bracket in place.
- Slide the bracket over the top of the drum towards the front of the dryer. This will allow access to the machine control electronics connectors and mounting screw.
- Disconnect all the wire connections from the machine control electronics. It’s helpful to label or take pictures of the connections before removing them to ensure correct reinstallation.
- Remove the screw that holds the machine control electronics assembly to the mounting bracket.
- To remove the assembly, press and hold the locking tab on the bottom of the machine control electronics. While pressing the tab, slide the assembly towards the front of the dryer. This will disengage the legs and release the assembly from the mounting bracket.
- Once the assembly is free from the mounting bracket, carefully lift it out of the dryer.
Step 2: reassembly
- Take the new machine control electronics assembly and align it with the opening in the dryer.
- Slide the assembly towards the rear of the dryer, ensuring that the plastic legs on the front and rear of the assembly slide under the mounting bracket.
- Press the assembly towards the rear until the locking tab on the bottom snaps into place, securing the assembly to the mounting bracket.
- Insert and tighten the screw that holds the machine control electronics assembly to the mounting bracket using a suitable screwdriver.
- Reconnect the wire connections to the machine control electronics, ensuring they are properly aligned and securely attached.
- Slide the bracket back over the top of the drum towards the rear of the dryer.
- Align the bracket with the screw holes and insert the screws. Tighten the screws using a screwdriver.
- Place the top panel of the dryer back into position by sliding it towards the front until it engages with the front clips.
- Secure the top panel by inserting and tightening the two rear screws using a screwdriver.
- Plug the dryer back into the power source. Run a test to check for any problems.
