Safety precautions

When working on any appliance, always keep safety first to avoid personal injury or damage to the appliance or parts. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Always power off and unplug your dryer or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of electric shock.
  • If the dryer has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
  • Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access dryer parts.
  • Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Never work on internal parts with wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
  • Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your dryer or replacement part.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the dryer or cause personal injury.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
  • When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
  • Consider wearing safety glasses and/or a dust mask when working with chemicals, dust or a large amount of debris to prevent irritation or injury.

Troubleshooting steps

Step 1 – Access the interface control

  1. Make sure the dryer is turned off and disconnected from the power source.
  2. Use a putty knife to disengage the two locking tabs on each corner of the console.
  3. Lift the console up at the front and pull it forward so that it faces down.
  4. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the interface control cover.

Step 2 – Inspect the control

Now that you can access the interface control, check for any obvious signs of failure like black marks, points that are missing solder, or damage. If you find any damage, replace the control.

If there’s no sign of damage or overheating, you can test it.

Step 3 – Test the control

  1. Remove the wire connection for the control.
  2. Set your multimeter to the continuity setting, which looks like a sideways WiFi symbol.
  3. If the user interface on your dryer has a removable wire harness, use the multimeter probes to test the control from one end of each wire to the other end. If the wires have continuity and can be fully secured into both controls, then the interface needs to be replaced. If your user interface has a ribbon harness, you’ll need to check the tech sheet to see if there’s a pinout to test the interface. Then put the leads on each connector (per the keychart) and press the subsequent key. There should be continuity when you press the key.
