If there\u2019s no continuity, plug the wire back into terminal 1 and proceed with the next step.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Test the cycling thermostat<\/h3>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make sure the dryer is unplugged from the power outlet.<\/li>\n<li>Place a thermometer in the duct.<\/li>\n<li>Use a 5\/16-inch nut driver to remove the two screws at the bottom of the front access panel.<\/li>\n<li>Place the meter probes into the wire connectors \u2014 one probe per wire \u2014 on the cycling thermostat.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><em>LIVE VOLTAGE WARNING: <\/em><\/strong><em>For this test, the dryer needs to be plugged in and powered on. Please be very careful to protect yourself from electric shock, which has the potential to cause serious injuries. Don\u2019t ever test live voltage if you\u2019re uncomfortable using a multimeter.<\/em><\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"5\">\n<li>Plug the power cord back in.<\/li>\n<li>Set your multimeter to volts AC mode.<\/li>\n<li>Use your multimeter probes to test the thermostat for voltage while the dryer is running. Once the meter reads 240 VAC, check the thermometer at the back.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the thermometer measures less than 145\u00b0F, then the cycling thermostat has failed and needs to be replaced. If the voltage doesn\u2019t change, then turn the dryer off, unplug the power cord and proceed to the next step.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Test the heating element<\/h3>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use a 5\/16-inch nut driver to remove the two screws (one on each bottom corner) from the upper panel of the front of the dryer.<\/li>\n<li>Take a photo of the door switch wiring to reference later, then disconnect the wires and set the panel aside.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the four screws that hold the front bulkhead to the frame, then lift the bulkhead and set it aside.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the belt from the motor and use it to help pull the drum out.<\/li>\n<li>Set your multimeter to measure resistance in Ohms (\u03a9).<\/li>\n<li>With one wire removed, use the multimeter probes to measure the resistance across the heating element terminals.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The resistance should be between 8 to 10 Ohms.
