If you still aren\u2019t sure whether the dryer belt is the root of your problem, take the top panel off of your dryer and have a look inside.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dryer belt should run along the middle of the drum, rib-side down, and it should be a relatively tight fit. If the belt is missing from the top of the drum, it has likely snapped and fallen off. If it seems especially loose, it may have stretched out or slipped the pulleys. Check the belt for tearing, crumbling, or thin spots. If has any damage like this, it needs to be replaced.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Has your dryer belt slipped free from the pulleys but has no other obvious damage? There\u2019s a good chance it\u2019s stretched out and still needs to be replaced, but you can still potentially save yourself a bit of time and money by reinstalling the dryer belt on the pulleys (check out our tutorial video to see how that\u2019s done) and testing the dryer out \u2013 that might be all you need to do to fix the issue, or at least buy you time until your new belt arrives.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Finding_The_Right_Replacement_Part\"><\/span>Finding The Right Replacement Part<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To track down a compatible replacement part, you need your appliance\u2019s model number. While your appliance\u2019s manual will have a partial number, the full model number is going to be on a sticker somewhere on the dryer\u2019s body. Not sure where to look? We\u2019ve got DIY repair guides for all the most popular appliance brands!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tools_for_the_job\"><\/span>Tools for the job<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To replace the drum belt in your Samsung dryer, you will need:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Phillips Screwdriver<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work Gloves<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Compatible Dryer Drum Belt (we used <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.appliancepartspros.com\/samsung-dryer-drum-belt-6602-001655-ap4373659.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">part number 6602-001655<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in this video)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Before_you_begin%E2%80%A6\"><\/span>Before you begin\u2026<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For your safety, be sure to disconnect your dryer from power either at the wall outlet or via the circuit breaker before beginning any maintenance. Never complete work on an appliance that is still receiving power \u2013 even if the appliance is off, you could get a nasty, potentially fatal shock!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Replacing_a_Samsung_dryer_belt\"><\/span>Replacing a Samsung dryer belt<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll be disassembling much of the appliance to reach the belt. Replacing it once you get there is a pretty quick and easy process, though. If you\u2019ve never tackled dryer disassembly before, set aside at least an hour to complete this job.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Remove the top panel.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The dryer\u2019s top panel is held in place by a few screws along the back of the appliance. Once those are out, slide the panel back slightly, then lift it up to remove it, and set it aside.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Remove the control panel.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It\u2019s held in place by a few locking tabs along the back. Carefully lift up on the control panel to dislodge these locking tabs, taking care not to pull too hard and break any of them. Once the panel is released, the wire harness still attached to it can be disconnected and the panel set aside.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Remove the front panel.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To do that, follow these steps:<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open the dryer door, there should be two screws at the bottom of the panel that will need to be removed. Once the screws are out, close the dryer door.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remove the four screws along the top of the front panel, where the control panel used to be.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With all the screws out, the panel can be removed. If it doesn\u2019t come away easily, open the dryer door and lift the front panel slightly while pulling it away from the dryer body. This will free it from the locking tabs still holding it in place.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Disconnect the dryer door switch to free up the panel completely. Lift the panel off of the mounting brackets at the bottom and set it aside.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Remove the control panel support bracket. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the metal panel that the control panel was mounted to. It\u2019s held in place by six screws \u2013 three on either side \u2013 that can be removed with your Phillips screwdriver. Disconnect any wire harness clipped to the panel, then remove it and set it aside.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Move the bundle of wires aside.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Just drape it over the side of the appliance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Remove the bulkhead. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bulkhead is held in place by a number of screws along the front of the dryer, including one on the blower assembly. Be sure to also disconnect the moisture sensor\u2019s wire harness.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Release the tension on the old belt and remove it from the pulleys.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If your belt is snapped, stretched out, or otherwise badly damaged, this step may be as easy as reaching in and removing the old belt.<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is done most easily while sitting on the floor in front of your disassembled dryer. Reach in under the drum. You\u2019ll likely need both hands for this, so put a hand in on each side of the drum.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grab the idler pulley and pull it toward the outside of the drier. This will slacken the tension on the old belt, allowing you to remove it from both pulleys.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Time to stand up! Lift up on the drum slightly and guide the old belt out of the machine.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Slide the new belt around the drum. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure that the belt doesn\u2019t have any twists in it, then carefully slide it over the drum. You\u2019ll need to lift the drum up again to slide the belt up all the way.<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The belt should be on the middle of the drum \u2013 there\u2019s likely a divot where the belt should rest \u2013 and the ribs should be facing the drum.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Route the new dryer belt through the pulleys. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is most easily done while sitting on the ground in front of your dryer.<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reach both hands in around the drum and pull the idler pulley up.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While holding the idler pulley up, loop the new belt around the motor pulley.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Slowly lower the idler pulley, making sure the belt is sitting properly on the idler pulley before releasing both entirely.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Reinstall the bulkhead.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> At this point, you\u2019ve successfully installed a new belt! Time to start reassembly.<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seat the bulkhead\u2019s tabs on one side. Before pressing the other side into place, you may need to lift the dryer drum to ensure it will mount properly on the bulkhead\u2019s rollers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the drum is properly in place, seat the other side\u2019s tabs into the dryer frame.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reinstall the five screws you removed earlier to ensure the bulkhead is secure.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Reconnect the moisture sensor wire harness.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It should click when it\u2019s locked in place.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Reattach the upper wire bundle <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to the clips it was threaded through on the bulkhead, then reconnect the light\u2019s harness. The door switch should be hanging down in the middle of the front panel, and for the time being the control panel wire harness will be unattached.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Reinstall the control panel support bracket.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Route the wire harness through the clips on this panel before completely seating the bracket. Once the wires are properly clipped, press the bracket\u2019s locking tabs into place and then reinstall the mounting screws.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Reinstall the front panel.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Start by setting it onto the brackets at the bottom of the dryer. Then reconnect the door switch wire harness before pushing the panel into place. Once the front panel is properly seated on all tabs, the screws across the top and inside of the door can be reinstalled.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Put the control panel back on. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, reconnect the wire harness for the control panel, then seat the panel into all locking tabs and press down to lock the panel in place. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Reinstall the dryer top. <\/b>To do this, set the top on the frame about an inch or two back, then press it forward. Take care when doing this to ensure that the top is properly catching the bracket that holds it in place.
