So, before you get started, make sure you have these essential tools on hand!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Okay, now that safety is addressed, let&#8217;s get started with the repair!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Removing the ice bucket<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first step is to remove the ice bucket from inside the freezer so you can access the ice maker components.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open the freezer door completely.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Locate the ice bucket inside the freezer. It will be a plastic bin sitting on a set of rails or tracks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lift up slightly on the front of the ice bucket to release it from its seating.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pull the ice bucket straight out, being careful not to spill any remaining ice cubes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Place the ice bucket on a towel or other protective surface to prevent scratching your countertop.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the ice bucket removed, you now have clear access to begin disassembling the ice maker.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking off the ice maker cover<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The outer cover of the ice maker will need to be taken off next. This is held in place with several screws.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the two screws located on the side of the ice maker housing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carefully turn over the ice maker assembly and remove the two screws holding on the bottom cover.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With all four screws removed, slowly separate and lift off the plastic cover.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Set the cover aside in a safe place where it won&#8217;t get damaged.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Removing the E-clip<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a small e-clip that helps hold some of the interior ice maker components in place. We&#8217;ll need to remove this clip to proceed.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stand the ice maker housing upright again so you can access the front.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Locate the e-clip on the front center of the housing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Insert a flathead screwdriver into the gap in the e-clip.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gently pry or flex the clip outward until it pops off the shaft.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Set this e-clip aside with the cover you removed earlier.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking off the washer<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the e-clip detached, a washer is now accessible that must also be removed.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carefully turn over the ice maker housing again.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A metal washer should slide off the center shaft.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remove this washer and set it with your parts.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Removing the crusher cover<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, we need to remove the cover over the ice crusher mechanism itself. This involves taking out several small screws.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use a 1\/4&#8243; nut driver to remove the two screws holding on the crusher cover. These will be on the underside.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the screws are out, you can detach the small bar linking the cover to the freezer door. Unhook it from the door side.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the bar unhooked, lift off the plastic crusher cover to expose the crusher blades.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Set aside the crusher cover safely with your other parts.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking off the auger nut and blades<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the crusher housing open, you can now access and remove the auger nut and blades, including the crusher blade you&#8217;ll replace.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Locate the hex nut holding the auger shaft and blades together. You may be able to loosen this by hand. If not, use pliers gently to break it free.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once loosened, unscrew and remove the nut completely. Set it aside.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ice crusher blades are stacked on the shaft with plastic spacers separating them. Note the order and orientation of the blades for reassembly later.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remove the blades\/spacers one by one until only the crusher blade remains on the shaft.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Replacing the crusher blade<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now you&#8217;re ready to swap out the old crusher blade for a new one.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take note of which direction the old crusher blade is facing on the shaft. You&#8217;ll need to match this with the new blade.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carefully slide off the old crusher blade from the auger shaft.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discard the old crusher blade.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Slide the new crusher blade onto the auger shaft in the same orientation as the old one.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ensure the blade is fully seated on the shaft before continuing reassembly.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reassembling the ice maker<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the new crusher blade installed, you can reassemble all the ice maker components in reverse order:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Replace any spacers and remaining blades in their original positions on the shaft.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thread the auger nut back on and tighten it down with pliers if needed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reposition the crusher housing cover and replace the small screws.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reattach the linkage bar to the freezer door.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Put the metal washer back on followed by the e-clip. Push the e-clip on firmly until it clicks into place.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Replace the outer cover and screw in all four screws again.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reinstalling the ice bucket<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The last step is to put the freshly repaired ice maker back into the freezer:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Line up the slots on the ice maker with the rails in the freezer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Push the ice bucket back into position until it clicks into place.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Close the freezer door and plug the refrigerator power cord back in.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Turn on the water supply line again.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Allow a few hours for the ice maker to begin making ice again.
