How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2042752 / WE4X692 Dual Coil

Igniter worked, gas valve making noise but only occasional light for a couple of seconds, mostly no light. Replaced both coils and fired right up. 

My GE gas dryer is an older model. I looked at the parts for wear and used my multi-meter and checked the parts in an attempt to determine which parts had failed. It appears the coils were the problem. I also noticed what appeared to be a hairline crack on the igniter. I ordered these parts and the flame sensor. Replacing these parts was surprisingly easy. I thoroughly cleaned the interior of the dryer. This old dryer performs like new drying heavy items like jeans and blankets in about 17 minutes. 

Watched a lot of videos to learn how to disassemble and test dryer parts. Determined build up of lint had developed. Subsequently the cycling thermostat burned out. Also, one gas coil tested problematic. Ordered both coils to be safe. Works great now! 

I replaced the dual coil and main coil . 

I watched the video on how to troubleshoot the problem, and it quickly allowed me to determine the solenoids coils were the likely source of the problem. The longest part of the repair was the shipping of the parts! I only needed a screwdriver, and the entire job was done in less than an hour! The dryer is working fine now and you saved me a couple of hundred dollars in service and repair costs! Thank you! 

The fix was very good, the dryer is working like new. 

After checking AAP and some other checking online many advised that the coils were the likely culprit. While apart I opted to do the "bearings" and needed to do the retainer too from waiting too long to do the job. 3 of the 4 original bearings were completely gone and some of the housing was worn away. With my GE all of this was super easy, the housing took the new bearings in no time and snapped the new housing in in under 5 minutes. Then with a stub Phillips screw driver I didn't even need to take the drum out to do the coils. I only needed to unscrew the 2 front screws to undo the lid, unhook the lid and that was it! Super easy and the web site helped A LOT. 

The igniter would glow then no flame, found the dual coil to have an open winding

We have 2 dryers. I watched the repair guy fix the first one and paid over $500. I ordered the parts and was able to repair the dryer in about an hr the very next day. It probably would have taken less time but my dryer is stacked on the washer. I didn't have to unstack them to do the repair!
