How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6015210 / WPW10116756 Idler Bracket Spacer (Dryer)

Took the front panel off (the door front), disconnected the connector to the door switch and used a wooden clothespin to bypass the door switch. Turned on the dryer to locate loud squeaking sound and found it was coming from the motor area. When I started to take the blower section apart from the motor, that is when I saw the "blower wheel" slipped off the motor shaft. The blower wheel has a "C" clip retainer and compression ring to keep it snug on the motor shaft (but it was loose). Now I also know why there was a lot of lint on the clothes and not on the lint trap filter. The blower wheel was not really turning on the shaft. I bought this Maytag dryer back in 1981 and the only thing done so far was the replacement of failed "dryer gas valve coils" back in 2001. So, I cleaned up the inside of the dryer (removed all the loose lint and bugs, and stuff). Checked over all the parts inside the dryer to see what was worn out and made a list of parts to replace. Total cost was less than $200, but when I got done it was as good as a new clothes dryer. The replacement parts were: a new belt, blower wheel (main problem), dryer gas valve coil kit (backups -- just in case), Front rubber seal for the door, Two -- dryer drum felt seal, blower seal, high temperature adhesive for the felt seal and blower seal. Everything else was good. Motor and its parts. I cleaned up the old grease and greased the motor bearings and other parts that I removed the old grease from. 

At first i just bought the belt, started dryer and off came the belt, and yes it was in place,looking at the idler arm it had a lot off back and forth movement so i ordered the whole assembly but the spring which no one has.put it all together again but drum barely turned.. so back apart and belt was in place. took the idler spring out cut 4 loops off it re did the end so it would hook on idler arm.and that did the trick.runs like new. 

With the help of AppliancePartsPros.com and their advice, I replaced the blower fan, idler bracket and pulley and 1 tumbler wheel with all associated washers . I planned on replacing both tumbler wheels. But one was damaged when I got it and they refunded me the total price and gave me a 20 % discount on my parts for the shipping. There were very helpful and patient and I will do business with only them in the future. GREAT EXPERIENCE Dryer runs like brand new!!!!! 

Replaced Drum support rollers, Tumbler bearings, Idler pulley wheel, and Idler arm. Found out that the blower wheel was bad and the main source of the noise issue once the dryer was torn down. So, had to order and replace the blower wheel too. But now all quiet when running. Probably quieter than when it was new. 

Ordered parts for a 25 year old Maytag gas dryer..no problem in getting parts,.the web site for parts are great It cross references to other parts so you can order the parts. or suggestion on what you may need to do..I didn't have to take the dryer totally apart from the front..as if you would repair the drum roller for which I did a few time ..just pull out dryer from wall disconnect the gas and power suppley..open the small 8 x8 panal on backside where the motor is located , take old parts out replace will new parts down. reconnect everything..Than done ..It took me 20 to 25 minutes to do the job..My skill level is very good. If I would get a repairs person to do it. I would have to take the dryer to than and the cost would be over $200. Besides if you have anything that more than10 years old no one will repair it. So I save over $!00.. By doing it myself

My Maytag DE7500 was old enough that I ordered and replaced the blower fan, motor, idler pulley wheel, idler pulley arm and sleeve, drum support rollers and axles, and dryer drum belt. The motor switch was different on the new motor. I called support and Sally O. emailed me the instruction sheet that showed me how to rewire it. It took about 10 minutes to rewire it. Sally was very polite and helpful.
