Eileen February 20, 2016 for Model Number NGS5712AS0 Our dishwasher isn't cleaning well on the top rack, and I'd like to check the sump area (after taking out the bottom arm and filter). However there is still water in this area - is this normal? Do I need to drain it out before taking off the volute cover?
1 Answer Eileen, Yes, there will be water left in the sump area after the dishwasher drains. You should remove the water from the sump, it'll make it easier to access and check the volute and direction ball. In most cases for problems similar to yours there is usually a lack of water in the tub. You may want to try this, start the dishwasher and let it fill and wash for 5 minutes. Unlatch the door and remove the lower rack. The water level in the bottom center, of the tub, should be 3/4 to 1 inch in depth. If the water level is too low, there isn't enough water to pressurize the pump, and move the water up the manifold pipe to the upper spray arm. Read More...
Lou June 27, 2014 for Model Number FDBB4365FCO There is a plastic ball that seems to block the passage of water into the upper spray arms. What does this ball do? It appears to be a check valve or? I can remove it by taking out the volute cover. The main pump and motor work strong and drive the bottom spray arms but the upper ones do not get any water. What will that do to the other functions? Lou
1 Answer Lou, You will not want to remove the ball as it is a check ball and supposed to be there. You will want to make sure that the ball is moving freely. Read More...
Gplease December 05, 2013 I recently ordered and replaced this part (the old ones tabs were damaged) but when I replace all the parts my arm will not lock in place. I checked each of the parts connecting this but there does not appear to be any damage with any of them. They look just like the new ones listed on your parts site. What could be the cause of it not locking in place?
1 Answer Hello Gplease. You need to twist the locking ring in the bottom to lock the spray arm into place. If it does not work, replace the lower spray arm on the unit. Read More...
Ed J November 10, 2013 for Model Number FDB641RJSO What makes the upper arm spray the dishes in the upper rack? I replaced the lower arm due to the fact that it had fallen on the heating coil and melted. The top rack of dishes don't seem to be getting clean. Water is flowing down into the funnel of the top arm but I don't think the arm is turning. Any help would be great
1 Answer Ed, Water pressure is what causes the upper spray arm to turn. You may be getting water to the arm but it may not have enough pressure behind it to allow it to turn. You will want to check the pump to make sure that there is nothing caught in the pump that will cause low water pressure. Read More...
Tim May 25, 2013 for Model Number FDB2310LCC2 While disassembling the glass filter in this unit I pulled out the Polypro Filter and when reassembling it appears that I stripped the ends or little nubs on the Volute cover that hold the lower spray arm support in place. I can reassemble and run the unit and the lower spray arm assembly stays in place, but is not locked in place. Is this normal and do I need to replace the volute cover in order to get the assembly to lock back in place?
1 Answer Tim, The lower spray arm should be locked in place and if not then you would need to replace the volute cover. Read More...
Wayne May 21, 2013 for Model Number GLD2250RDC0 Recently purchased and replaced lower washer arm and volute cover. The old washer arm had fallen on the heating element and melted. Now the pump will not start/run during the wash cycle. The water fills OK and the pump will run to pump out the water -- but not to operate the wash cycle. After filling with water, it doesn't "kick in." Again, it will pump out (drain). What could be the problem? Thank you.
1 Answer Wayne, You will want to check to make sure that power is going to the circulation pump. Also you will want to check the water temperature to make sure that the water in the tub is at least 120 degrees. It may be that the heater could have been damaged when the arm fell off and the water is not getting hot enough to allow the unit to cycle. Read More...

Brad January 02, 2012 for Model Number FDB710LCS1 Does the Volute cover control the amount of water going up to the top of the dishwasher as well as the amount of water used for the bottom sprayer? My dishwasher seems to not send enough water to the top but the bottom sprays real well.
1 Answer Hi Brad. Have you removed the racks and cleaned the entire unit ? This is advisable since all the pressure is flowing from the sum of all parts. Use a shop vac and towels to assist. you. Use a pick tool to dislodge the spray arms jet blockage's. rinse all parts under the sink and examine anything for wear or breakage. Remember to un bolt the motor mount ans examine the impeller on the motor shaft. It is part # 154859201.
