Lois, It sounds as though the spider, which is the part that holds the inner tub up has broken and would have to be replaced. The spider part number is DC97-14875B.

Lacey, Yes the unit could behave in this fashion if the balancer is damaged. You will want to check he balance ring to make sure that it is not broken or damaged.

Hello James, You will need to make sure nothing is between the tubs and the spin basket is not contacting the door boot. Spinning the spin basket by hand will normally give away anything between the tubs and removing the main top will show if the tub assembly is not hanging properly. If the sound is a loud roar, the spin bearings will require service.

James, WIth the white plastic shavings in the drain then this will most likely be a flange that has broken which is part number DC97-14875B. You may also want to check the front tub to make sure that it has not worn out the front. This will most likely be the case and would be recommended to replace the front tub. The front tub assembly part number is DC97-08650H.
