Edward, This would more likely be an indication of low voltage to the machine or an issue with the circuit to the machine (overloaded circuit etc...)

Buster, We would need to have the model number of your unit to be able to assist with your question but it sounds like you need to put the unit into service diagnostics and see if there are any stored error codes.

Ray for Model Number lsq8543jqo

My whirlpool ultimate care 2 washer has stopped during the drain cycle and will not drain or spin. The door switch is good. When I try to run it it has a burning smell and a real hot motor. I have removed the pump, ( it turns freely). The trans mission turns with a firm force. The motor will not turn when I try to start it with the pump off and I back up the transmission so it will turn with little force from the motor. The motor doesn't even move with the power applied and it gets extremely hot. Is the motor bad? Thanks

1 Answer

Ray, Based on the information, if the motor will not move when power is applied to it and it is not connected to the gearcase or the pump then the motor would certainly be the issue.

Chuck, Has the washer shown any sign of failure? All you can do is visually check under the console and the harness going to the motor at this point for wire insulation melting or dark spots on connectors. Makes sure all harnesses are plugged in tight with a good connection. A loose connection causes heat by itself.

Michael for Model Number GSQ9310HQ0

My washer will not spin, when I pull the knob out I hear a humming noise, sounds electrical. The motor coupling is good and shaft is not slipping Inside the coupling. a new control board has been installed, a new timer was Installed but did not change anything. The pump was checked for obstruction but was clear including hoses. Lid switch reads .02 ohms when pressed , seems ok Occasionally it will suddenly start to spin correctly as if it Is fixed. And then the problem comes back. First? Is there brushes on this motor that need replacing? Machine is twenty years old. Also on the side of motor there is a round Component with two wires connected. It is leaking some substance from the seams. Not sure If that is responsible for starting the Motor.

1 Answer

Michael, the part that is leaking is going to be the start capacitor WP8572720 and will need to be replaced. The start capacitor can cause this issue and would be the first step necessary.

Handywilliams for Model Number WJRR4170G2WW

I have a ge washer been troubleshooting for days.it runs drains but wont aggitator or spin but motor turns code 6 or 7 keeps popping up almost sure it's 6.followed lead down from door switchto motor and it stays constant hot.so presume it's capacitor.but can't find one called parts places an ge and they can't find one but on drip cover on motor has a capacitor under it with two leads on it. Reading 40 ohms I touched screwdriver across it to release power what is on motor an what might be my problem.

1 Answer

Hello Handywilliams, code 6 refers to a locked rotor, meaning something is preventing the motor/belt/pulley,mode/shifter/agitator or basket from turning. The 7 code refers to the lid switch, not opening/closing correctly.

Hello Emil, unfortunately, we cannot advise on modifying the wiring to a part such as this for a different application other then what the manufacturer intended, the motor is controlled by a timer and also needs a capacitor to work correctly.

Jason, the motor WP661600 is a direct replacement part listed by the manufacturer as replacing both 3951550 and 8528158. As such, incorporating the slow run winding may not occur with your model. If you could provide the model number for your appliance in a new inquiry, this will allow for the most accurate information to be presented.
