The Ice Auger Gear Motor is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This part powers the auger that moves ice from the bin into the dispenser. This motor ensures that ice can be delivered smoothly and efficiently whenever needed.

Causes of a bad Ice Auger Gear Motor can include wear and tear from regular use, electrical issues that prevent the motor from receiving power, or mechanical problems that hinder the motor's ability to turn the auger.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Auger Gear Motor include:

  • The ice dispenser not working or dispensing ice very slowly.
  • A humming or grinding noise coming from the ice dispenser mechanism.
  • Ice not being dispensed at all, despite there being ice in the bin.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Bob, I would check the dispenser auger to maker sure nothing is in a bind and stopping the motor, if not it could very well be a weak motor.

Jon for Model Number GSS26C5XXY00

I have a Whirlpool Gold Fridge. Ice Dispenser has stopped dispensing ice. I have already eliminated the Actuator and Motor. There is no power at the motor and I can see the motor two wires emerge at the bottom of the door and go under the refridgerator. Is there another part I need to check as to why there is no voltage at my motor? Will I be looking for a relay or solenoid of some kind are will I find these two wire lead to a control board or similar?

1 Answer

Jon, it is recommended that the wires at the hinge are inspected for any signs of a broken wire. If the ice dispenser paddle WPW10370594 tests as having continuity when pressed, there is not a broken wire, and the door chute motor opens when the dispenser paddle is pressed then the most likely cause of failure would be the main control WPW10235488. The main control can be tested for voltage output to the motor using connection P3 pin 7 (red probe of meter) and pin 8 (black probe of meter). If there is 140VDC, then there would be a wiring issue. If there is not 140VDC, then the main control has failed.

John for Model Number GD25DIXHT00

My Whirlpool Refrigerator is model # GD25DIXHT00. The original ice auger motor # 2198594 is bad. Your video showed the removal of auger motor # 2198594 and replacement with auger motor # 2188868. I tried auger motor # 2188868 which mounted fine, but since it is a taller motor, my wire harness connector was significantly too short. I tried to pull any excess to make it reach but there was none. Do you have a direct replacement that more closely matches the original so the wiring plug will reach? Thanks. John

1 Answer

Hello John, for your model, the auger motor is part [2198594] which the manufacturer subs to part [W11170227], and is our replacement part W11170227.

Lamar, The yellow wire will go to the pin labeled L1 and the white will go to the pin labeled N on the motor tag.

James, It sounds like the issue will be a faulty dispenser motor and it should be the only thing that would need to be replaced.

Kathy, You have to slide the motor past this electrical connector and will be tight but will come out. This will be the only way to get the motor out.

Zeke for Model Number GD5DHAXVY 00

(Model # GD5DHAXVY 00) My ice despenser is not working. Replaced the auger motor to no avail. I get power through the switch at the top of the ice dispenser arm (verified continuity, and even LED panel lights up when switch engaged). There does not appear to be any power deliverred to the auger motor when the dispenser arm is depressed (verified no current), but I do hear a delayed set of clicks (two) at about 1/2 sec interval when dispenser arm is pushed. Any ideas on a next step? Thank you!

1 Answer

Zeke, You will want to check to make sure that the paddle is hitting the switch on the dispenser bracket and if it is then this issue will most likely be in the control board of that bracket which would be part number W10677673.
