Tools needed
- 5/8″ open-ended wrench
- 5/16″ nut driver
- Phillips screwdriver
- Flathead screwdriver
Safety precautions
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
- Turn off the water supply at the outlet before beginning repairs to any appliance parts that hold water. Have towels ready for any residual water in the system when removing parts.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
- Don’t test wiring with a multimeter for live voltage if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short circuiting when testing.
- When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
- Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
- Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Never work on internal parts with bare wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
- Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
- Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
- If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time for any heating parts to cool down before working on it.
Replacement steps
Disassembly
- Open the dishwasher door and locate the Phillips screws that hold the dishwasher mounting brackets to the countertop or cabinet. Remove the screws and brackets and set them aside.
- Place a towel and a plastic container under the shut-off valve under the sink to catch any water that may leak when disconnected.
- Using a 5/8 open-ended wrench, loosen and remove the water line connected to the shut-off valve.
- Using a 5/16 inch nut driver, loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the drain hose from the air gap or garbage disposal. Be cautious as there might still be some water inside the hose.
- Once the water line and drain hose are disconnected, carefully pull the dishwasher out from under the counter.
- Tilt the dishwasher up, keeping the top end under the counter, and locate the Phillips screws in the corners of the top panel.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws and set them aside.
- Place the top panel on a safe surface, pull the dishwasher out a bit more, and lay it on its left side.
- Lift up the insulation on the left side of the dishwasher to reveal the main control board.
- To remove the old main control board, open the tab securing it, push down on the control board, and set it aside in a convenient location for working.
- Lift the tabs on either side of the cap covering the plugs and remove the cap.
- Gradually remove all the plugs from the control board, taking care to release each one from the harness retainers.
- Take out the old main control board and set it aside.
Installation
- When installing the new main control board, open the tabs and remove the cap.
- Secure the plugs in their respective positions, properly locked and with the harness secured under the retainers.
- Install the cap with the tabs locked in place.
- Slide the new control board into the opening at the top of the dishwasher, aligning the tabs, and press it up to secure the control board in place.
- Replace the insulation.
- Stand the dishwasher upright and reinstall the top panel, aligning the holes with the corresponding screws.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to secure the top panel with the screws.
- Reinstall the dishwasher under the counter.
- Manually thread the water line onto the shut-off valve and tighten it using a 5/8 open-ended wrench.
- Remove the towel and the plastic container from under the shut-off valve.
- Reconnect the drain hose to the air gap or garbage disposal and tighten the clamp using a 5/16 inch nut driver.
- Secure the dishwasher to the countertop with the mounting brackets.
- Close the dishwasher door.
- Turn on the water supply at the shut-off valve.
- Plug the dishwasher into the power outlet.
- Run a test cycle on the dishwasher to check for any leaks or problems.
