What you need

  • Phillips head screwdriver

Important: The specific tools required may vary depending on the model of your appliance and the type of fasteners used on it. Always consult the user manual or refer to any specific instructions provided by the manufacturer for the recommended tools for your appliance model.

Safety tips

When working on any appliance, always keep safety first to avoid personal injury or damage to the appliance or its parts. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before you attempt any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by eliminating any risk of electric shock.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
  • Take your time while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries. Rushing is the enemy of precision.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can see and access appliance parts.
  • Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Never work on internal parts with wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
  • Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
  • When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
  • Always take photos or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting them to make reassembly easier.
  • Consider wearing safety glasses and/or a dust mask when working with chemicals, dust or a large amount of debris to prevent irritation or injury.

How to replace an inner door glass

Follow these steps to safely remove the old inner door glass and install a new replacement pane:

Step 1: Preparation

  1. Use a shop vacuum to clean up any broken glass if necessary. Skip this step if replacing due to chipping and no glass is broken.
  2. Open the oven door fully and engage the hinge swivel locks by pushing the door back gently until they lock.
  3. Lift the door off the range by holding both sides and carefully removing it from the hinges.
  4. Place the door with the front panel down onto a soft towel or blanket on the floor to prevent damage.

Step 2: Remove the old glass

  1. Remove the two Phillips head screws located at the top of the inner door panel.
  2. Remove the Phillips head screws located along the bottom ridge of the door and take off the bottom trim.
  3. Use a shop vacuum to clean any remaining glass inside the door.
  4. Remove the several Phillips head screws that secure the bracket holding the inner door glass in place.
  5. Take out the damaged glass and discard it.

Step 3: Install the new glass

  1. Place the new inner door glass into the door, making sure it is positioned securely.
  2. Reattach the bottom trim by aligning it properly and securing it with the Phillips head screws at the bottom.
  3. Reinstall the screws at the top of the door liner to hold the glass in place.

Step 4: Reattach the door

  1. Slide the door hinges back into the slots on the range to reinstall the door.
  2. Lower the door into place and swivel the hinge locks back to secure the door.
  3. Close the door and ensure it operates smoothly.

Plug the range back in or turn the breaker back on to restore power.
