  • 13/16-inch socket wrench

Safety tips

When working on any appliance, remember to keep safety first. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before you attempt any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by eliminating any risk of electric shock.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
  • Shut off the gas supply to prevent any gas leaks while you work.
  • Take your time while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries. Rushing is the enemy of precision.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can see and access appliance parts.
  • Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Never work on internal parts with wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
  • Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
  • When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
  • Always take photos or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting them to make reassembly easier.

How to change out the spark module

Replace the spark module in your gas Bosch range by following these steps.

Step 1: Remove the burner caps and nuts

The burner caps and nuts make up the gateway to your spark module. Here’s how to remove them:

  1. Unplug the range from the power outlet and shut off the gas supply.
  2. Carefully grasp the burner caps and lift them off.
  3. Use a 13/16-inch socket wrench to unscrew and remove the nuts that secure the burner bases.
  4. Carefully pull the cooktop forward.

Step 2: Disassemble the spark module

  1. The spark module is protected by a cover, which is secured with Phillips screws. Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove these screws and take off the cover.
  2. There’s a screw securing the plug, which you’ll need to take out. Don’t forget to retain the plastic washer – it’ll come in handy later.

Step 3: Disconnect the wires

  1. Note how the wires are connected to the old spark module so you can attach them to the new spark module later on. The wires are typically color-coded as follows: Red wire (S1), white wire (S2), orange wire (S3) and black wire (S4).
  2. Disconnect the wires to the old spark module.

Step 4: Install the new spark module

Just reconnect the wiring to the new part: The red wire (S1) connects to the red terminal, the white wire (S2) connects to the white terminal, the orange wire (S3) connects to the orange terminal and the black wire (S4) connects to the black terminal.

Step 5: Secure the new module

  1. Lift up the plastic washer.
  2. Slide the new spark module under the washer.
  3. Use your Phillips screwdriver to tighten the screw and secure the module in place.
  4. Swing the tab onto the spark module and tighten the screw once more.

Step 6: Reassemble the range and test

  1. Reattach the cover by aligning it with the designated cutouts and securing it with the provided Phillips screws.
  2. Gently lower the cooktop back into position. Slide it back and make sure the wires are long enough for you to reconnect everything.
  3. Reassemble the burner bases by orienting the pins.
  4. Align the burner caps and grates and make sure they’re secure.
  5. Plug your range back in and turn on the gas supply.
  6. Test the burners to make sure they ignite correctly.
