Tools needed

  • Phillip’s screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Socket wrench with 10 mm head

Replacement steps

Disassembly

  1. Remove all food items from the door shelves.
  2. Locate the upper hinge at the top of the right door.
  3. Remove the screw attaching the hinge cover. Lift up the hinge cover and set it aside.
  4. Secure the door with duct tape to the cabinet at the top to prevent it from falling.
  5. Locate the door wiring harness plug where it connects to the cabinet.
  6. Press down the tab on the wiring harness plug and pull it apart to disconnect it from the cabinet.
  7. Turn the locking tab plate on the hinge clockwise, lift it off, and set it aside.
  8. Use a flat blade screwdriver to pry up the hinge and remove it from the cabinet.
  9. Remove the duct tape from the door.
  10. Open the door and lift it off of the bottom hinge. Have help as the door will be heavy. 
  11. Open the freezer door to access the bottom toe kickplate grille.
  12. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the couple of Phillips screws that hold the grille in place.
  13. Remove the bottom toe kickplate grille.

Installation

  1. Take the new hinge assembly and align the holes on it with the corresponding holes on the refrigerator cabinet.
  2. Place the three 10 millimeter bolts provided with the new hinge into the holes, starting them manually.
  3. Use a 10 millimeter socket wrench to tighten the bolts securely.
  4. Raise up the hinge pin by unscrewing the bottom nut and then the hinge pin itself counterclockwise until it clears the bolt.
  5. Install the new hinge pin into the hinge assembly by threading it in clockwise.
  6. Adjust the door height as needed by screwing or unscrewing the hinge pin.
  7. Reinstall the bottom toe kickplate grille and secure it with the Phillips screws.
  8. Reinstall the door by lifting it over the bottom hinge and aligning the upper hinge with the hinge pin on the cabinet. You may need assistance to hold the door while installing the upper hinge.
  9. Close the freezer door for support if needed.
  10. Reattach the duct tape to hold the door in place while installing the upper hinge.
  11. Place the upper hinge under the pin and into the cutout, ensuring that the door wiring harness is inside the hinge.
  12. Press the upper hinge down to secure it in place.
  13. Install the hinge lock by turning it counterclockwise.
  14. Reconnect the door wiring harness plug to the cabinet by pressing the tab and sliding the plug back in.
  15. Put the hinge cover back in place. Make sure that the door wiring harness is tucked inside.
  16. Secure the hinge cover with the Phillips screw.
  17. Remove the duct tape from the door. Plug the refrigerator back in.
  18. Check for any issues with the door movement and alignment.
