Tools needed

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • 3/8″ nut driver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • 1/4″ nut driver

Safety precautions

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
  • Turn off the water supply at the outlet before beginning repairs to any appliance parts that hold water. Have towels ready for any residual water in the system when removing parts.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
  • Don’t test wiring with a multimeter for live voltage if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short circuiting when testing.
  • When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
  • Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
  • Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Never work on internal parts with bare wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
  • Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
  • Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time for any heating parts to cool down before working on it.

Replacement steps

Disassembly

  1. Open the oven door and remove the oven racks by pulling them out until they stop, then lift up and slide them off the rest of the way. Set them aside.
  2. Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the two screws that hold the oven bottom down.
  3. Lift the oven bottom out and set it aside.
  4. Remove the flame spreader by taking out the nut with a ⅜ nut driver and lifting it off the burner tube.
  5. With the flame spreader out of the way, you have access to the oven igniter.
  6. Push the drawer out.
  7. Remove the shield over the wire connection in the left corner using a Philips screwdriver to take out the screw. Slide the cover out of the way.
  8. Disconnect the wire harness by pressing the locking tab and pulling it off.
  9. Once disconnected, pull the shield off and set it aside.
  10. Follow the wires and disconnect both from the safety valve, be careful not to lose the gray shield.
  11. Use a small flat-head screwdriver to remove the wires off the safety valve.
  12. Follow the burner tube up to where the igniter is mounted on the right-hand side, held in by two screws.
  13. Use a quarter-inch nut driver to remove these screws and pull the igniter out.

Installation

  1. Before installing the new oven igniter, remove the rubber protectors from the old one and slide them onto the new one.
  2. Carefully feed the new igniter back into place, align it on the burner tube.
  3. Secure the new igniter with the two screws using the quarter-inch nut driver. Leave the first screw loose until the second screw hole is lined up, then tighten them both.
  4. Reconnect the wiring harnesses and the connections to the safety valve.
  5. Put the shield over the big connection and reconnect the small wire, sliding the protector up.
  6. Reinstall the plate that covers the connection on the side of the oven by feeding the wiring harness through the hole, setting it aside.
  7. Plug the wire harness into the sidewall until it locks into place.
  8. Turn the cover around and put the screw in that holds it in place.
  9. Close the drawer.
  10. Reinstall the flame spreader on the burner tube. Lower it down in place where the bolt comes through the opening and tighten it with the ⅜ nut driver.
  11. To reinstall the oven bottom, put it back in, lift the back up, and put the front lip under the frame, then lower it down.
  12. Put the screws back in and tighten them with a flat-head screwdriver.
  13. Reinstall the oven racks by lining them up on each side, lifting up when they stop, and feeding them in the rest of the way.
  14. Close the oven door. Plug the oven back in and test it to check for any problems.
