Safety precautions

When working on any appliance, remember to keep safety first. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
  • Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
  • Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Never work on internal parts with bare wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
  • Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
  • Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time for any heating parts to cool down before working on it.
  • Take pictures or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting to prevent any problems with reassembly.
  • When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.

  3. Place a towel on the floor beneath the joint to catch any potential water drips.
  4. Remove the locking rings from each side of the coupling by pushing them off.
  5. Push in the locking collar and pull out the first tube, then proceed to the second one.
  6. Remove the towel after the water has drained.
  7. Move to the back of the fridge to access the rear panel.
  8. Remove the water inlet hose using a half-inch open-end wrench. Make sure the water is turned off at the faucet, as water may drip from the hose.

  10. Remove the water inlet valve by taking out the single Phillips screw with the screwdriver.
  11. Disconnect the water lines by pressing the locking collar and pulling them out. Use a towel to catch any remaining water.
  12. Remove the clips and retainers holding the water lines in place by unscrewing them with a Phillips screwdriver. Work your way up the line.
  13. Remove the box holding the light and air duct by unscrewing the Phillips screw. Slide the box down to release the tab, lift it, and pull it out.
  14. Remove the light lens by pulling the bottom tabs toward you and disengaging the top tabs.
  15. Remove the panel by taking out the hidden screws with a long Phillips screwdriver, pulling it slightly forward, and then down to disengage the pins.
  16. Disconnect the harness plug and take out the single Phillips screw holding the water filter housing.
  17. Slide the water filter housing assembly forward, pulling on the two water lines.
  18. Remove the water filter by turning it counterclockwise and pulling it out, using a towel to catch any dripping water.
  19. Remove the old water supply line from the back of the fridge, pulling it out of the bracket and disconnecting it.

Step 2: Installation and reassembly

  1. Prepare the new water supply line by feeding it into the opening to connect to the water filter.
  2. Install the locking ring onto the new line and press it into place.
  3. Feed the lines back and lock the water filter housing onto the locking pin at the top.
  4. Secure the water filter housing with the Phillips screw and tighten it using the Phillips screwdriver.
  5. Reconnect the cover panel with the light bulb bracket by plugging it in and aligning the locking pins into the ceiling.
  6. Secure the panel with two Phillips screws, one in each corner, using the long Phillips screwdriver.
  7. Install the light lens by inserting the top tabs and locking the bottom ones.
  8. Reinstall the water filter by pushing it in and turning it clockwise to lock it in place.
  9. Slide the cover over the opening and align the holes. Insert the Phillips screw and tighten it using the screwdriver.
  10. Reinstall the retainer bracket by attaching it to the cabinet with a Phillips screw and tightening it.
  11. Slide the support spring onto the new water line and install the locking ring onto the port. Push the water line in until it locks.

  13. Install the last retainer clip and secure it with a Phillips screw.
  14. Reattach the rear access panel by sliding the clips into place and securing the panel with Phillips screws.
  15. Reconnect the water line manually and finish tightening it with a half-inch open-end wrench. Be careful not to overtighten.
  16. Pull the tube forward to remove any slack from the back of the fridge.
  17. Install the locking collars onto the couplings, ensuring the small collar fits the small coupling and the large collar fits the large one.
  18. Reinstall the grill by sliding it into place and securing it with the two Phillips screws.
  19. Close the fridge doors, plug the fridge back in, turn on the water supply, and check for leaks.
