Safety precautions

When working on any appliance, remember to keep safety first. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
  • Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
  • Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
  • Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time for any heating parts to cool down before working on it.
  • Take pictures or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting to prevent any problems with reassembly.

Testing process

  1. Remove the kickplate at the bottom of the refrigerator. You will see a wiring connector that needs to be disconnected.
  2. Remove the dispenser tray from the dispenser assembly by removing the 3 screws on the front.
  3. Remove the screws holding the housing that contains the control board, then lift off the dispenser cover.
  4. Set your multimeter to test for continuity.
  5. Test each wire in the connector at the dispenser and the wire connector at the bottom of the door.
  6. There should be continuity at each of these connection points. Also check for any damaged wiring at the bottom of the door.
  7. If any of the wiring does not have continuity, the wiring harness in the door will need to be replaced.
  8. Reinstall the housing that holds the control board.
  9. Reinstall the dispenser tray.
  10. Reconnect the wire harness at the bottom of the freezer door.
  11. Reinstall the kickplate.
  12. Plug the refrigerator back in or turn the circuit breaker back on.
