Safety first

When working on any appliance, always keep safety first to avoid personal injury or damage to the appliance or parts. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before you attempt any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of electric shock.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
  • Take your time while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries. Rushing is the enemy of precision.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access appliance parts.
  • Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Never work on internal parts with wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
  • Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
  • Consider wearing safety glasses and/or a dust mask when working with chemicals, dust or a large amount of debris to prevent irritation or injury.

Replacement Steps

Begin by unplugging the refrigerator or switching off the circuit breaker to avoid any chance of electric shock.

  1. Open both doors fully to give yourself enough room to access and remove the pantry drawer.
  2. Grip the pantry drawer handle and pull the drawer out.
  3. Once extended, lift the drawer up and off the rails.
  4. Place the drawer on a towel-lined surface to prevent scratches.
  5. Use a flathead screwdriver to release the locking tabs along the bottom of the handle.
  6. Gently pull outward on the handle as you go to prevent it from snapping back into place.
  7. Flip the drawer over.
  8. Carefully unhook each side of the handle from the drawer by separating it slightly and lifting it up.
  9. Once unhooked, use the screwdriver to release the final two locking tabs on each end.
  10. Once all clips are free, lift the handle trim off. It may be slightly sticky due to buildup over time, but it should come off with gentle prying.
  11. Remove any protective film from the new handle.
  12. Start by reconnecting the trim to the handle. Line up the clips and press them into place until they snap securely.
  13. Next, flip the handle and line up the hooks on each side of the drawer.
  14. Hook the new handle into place and press it down to snap it into position.
  15. Turn the drawer over and check all tabs to ensure they’re locked in properly.
  16. Slide the drawer back into the refrigerator.
  17. Make sure the rear tabs fit into the hooks at the back of the rails.
  18. Align the front tab with the cutout on the rail and slide it in fully.
  19. If one of the rails has slid back, pull it forward to realign.
  20. Close the refrigerator doors.
  21. Plug the fridge back in or restore power at the breaker.
  22. Pull the pantry drawer in and out to ensure everything is working smoothly.
