If your GE gas burner isn’t sparking or lighting reliably, there’s a good chance the electrode clip (part WB01K10112) is loose, missing, or damaged. This small metal clip holds the igniter electrode in place and ensures it stays properly positioned for spark ignition. Replacing it is super simple and can make a big difference in performance. In this guide, I’ll show you how to swap it out quickly and safely so your range lights right every time.

Overview of Electrode Clips
The electrode clip is a small metal part that holds the ignition electrode (also called the spark electrode) in place underneath your cooktop. It’s located right by the gas burner.
When you turn your burner knob, a spark is created at the electrode which ignites the gas. This is what produces the flame on your range. The electrode clip keeps the electrode firmly secured so it can spark properly.
Over time, these clips can get loose or corroded. If the electrode is not making good contact, gas may not ignite or will only partially light. Replacing the clip restores full sparking capability so you can get all your burners working again.
When to Replace the Electrode Clip
Here are some signs that it may be time to swap out the electrode clip:
- Burners not lighting or only partially lighting
- flames are low or uneven
- Burners igniting slowly
- Persistent clicking sound but no ignition
- Electrode hanging loose out of position
If you try cleaning around the electrode but issues persist, the clip likely needs to be replaced. Doing so is an inexpensive and straightforward repair.
Materials and Tools Needed
Gather the following supplies before getting started:
- Socket wrench with 5/8″ head
- Torx 15 screwdriver
- Putty knife
- Needle nose pliers
- Replacement electrode clip (For this guide we are using WB01K10112 . Use your model number to locate the correct part for your unit.)
You’ll also want to locate your gas line shut-off valve and have your owner’s manual handy just in case.
Safety first! Be sure to turn off the power to your range at the breaker and shut off the gas supply. Verify it’s off by attempting to ignite a burner.
Okay, with that taken care of, you’re ready to begin!
Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps to safely replace your gas range electrode clip:
- Take off all burner grates and caps (lift straight up). Set them aside somewhere safe.
- Lift out the drip pans – this exposes the screws you need access to next.
- Use a putty knife to gently detach the push-on electrode wires from each electrode terminal.
- There will be 2-4 electrodes, depending on your range.
- Pull the wires up and out of the way.
- Use the socket wrench to loosen (not fully remove) the mounting nuts at the base of each electrode.
- Grab a putty knife and insert it about 2 inches from each corner of the cooktop to release the edges.
- Carefully lift up the cooktop and slide it out. Watch for any caught wires.
- Fully disconnect the electrode wires and set the cooktop aside.
- Now you can access the underside of the cooktop where the electrodes are.
- Use needle nose pliers to squeeze and remove each old electrode clip. These just pull straight out.
- Take each new clip and push it into place on the electrode stem.
- Position the clip so the open side is facing out, allowing the electrode to move freely.
- Make sure the clip is fully snapped in.
- Carefully slide the cooktop back into position. Feed the electrode wires through the openings.
- Reattach the electrode wires to the terminals – push firmly until they click.
- Tighten down the mounting nuts using your socket wrench.
- Set the drip pans back into their spots.
- Return the burner caps and grates.
That’s it – you just replaced the electrode clip! Give the burners a test ignition to make sure everything is sparking properly before using the range.
