The pressure chamber on a Bosch dishwasher is responsible for controlling the water level inside the dishwasher and activating the drain pump in case of any water leaks to prevent potential flooding. Over time, the pressure chamber may become damaged or worn out, leading to issues such as insufficient water or no water at all inside the dishwasher. Fortunately, installing a new pressure chamber is a relatively straightforward repair that can be completed in just a few minutes.

Tools needed

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Towel/container
  • 5/8″ wrench
  • 5/16″ nut driver
  • Torx 20 screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver

Safety precautions

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
  • Turn off the water supply at the outlet before beginning repairs to any appliance parts that hold water. Have towels ready for any residual water in the system when removing parts.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
  • Don’t test wiring with a multimeter for live voltage if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short circuiting when testing.
  • When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
  • Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
  • Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Never work on internal parts with bare wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
  • Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
  • Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time for any heating parts to cool down before working on it.

Replacement steps

Disassembly

  1. Open the dishwasher door and locate the mounting brackets that hold the dishwasher to the countertop or cabinet. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove these screws.
  2. Under the sink cabinet, place a towel or a plastic container under the shut off valve to catch any water that may leak.
  3. Use a 5/8 open-end wrench to disconnect the water line from the dishwasher.
  4. Use a 5/16 inch nut driver to loosen the hose clamp and remove the drain hose from the air gap.
  5. Pull the dishwasher out from under the cabinet.
  6. Use a Torx 20 screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the side panel through the side seal.
  7. Slide the side panel to the side to free it at the bottom and the back.
  8. Lift up the insulation and remove the black hose retainer clip.
  9. Pull out the drain hose from the water inlet assembly. Pull out the water inlet assembly.
  10. Pull up and remove the pressure chamber. Take care not to lose the float switch actuator on the right side.
  11. Remove the sump to pressure chamber hose by using a small flat-head screwdriver to open the tabs. Remove the plastic cover as well.
  12. Disconnect the two wire plugs. Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to pry off the two-wire plug of the top microswitch, followed by the three-wire plug from the bottom switch.

Installation

  1. Install both wire plugs on the new part.
  2. Snap the cover back in place by pressing it until it locks.

  4. Place the red shaft into the channel and install the new pressure chamber. Ensure that the bottom of the red shaft is inside the float cup and push the chamber down.
  5. Install the water inlet assembly with the right side tab in the pressure chamber and the left side tab in the base.
  6. Connect the drain hose, ensuring it is fully inserted.
  7. Push the water inlet assembly down to secure the locking clip on the hoses.
  8. Roll down the insulation and install the side panel. First, secure the bottom, then insert the two plastic tabs at the rear.
  9. Slide the front on and secure the panel with the two Torx 20 screws.
  10. Slide the dishwasher back under the counter.
  11. Thread the water line onto the shuttle valve manually and tighten it using a 5/8 open-ended wrench.
  12. Connect the drain hose to the air gap and tighten the clamp using a 5/16 inch nut driver.
  13. Secure the dishwasher to the countertop or cabinet using the mounting brackets.
